Understand internal company jargon, buzzwords and acronyms  

As a telecommunications company, nbn, the National Broadband Network is an Australian organisation run with a complex internal business language, full of acronyms, jargon and industry buzzwords. For most employee, regardless of whether they have worked with the company for a short or long time, encountering new and unfamiliar acronyms is a daily occurrence.

The internal communications team at nbn had for a long time, tried to find a solution which allows employees to easily look up internal acronyms, as well as allowing individual team members to contribute to this list on an ongoing basis.

In August 2017, nbn successfully launched Enablo’s acronym bot and now used daily to find acronyms or jargon within the organisation. Additionally, nbn see new acronyms added every week, with the database constantly growing. It is a simple tool that can be accessed from desktop or mobile – it has never been easier to look up acronyms and find answers quickly.

– Nearly 1500 unique users 
– 16,430 queries with over 60% matched
– Close to 2000 acronyms

How to do it in your organisation in three simple steps:

  1. Align technical resources (who have experience in working with APIs) either in-house or from a third party such as Enablo.com create a time bound launch plan, and program manage it to launch [Technical documentation on bots here]
  2. Create an exciting communication plan to announce the launch of this bot and a simple how-to video showing how to interact with it
  3. Define SOPCs for each business/department to own and satisfactorily close the interactions coming for their respective areas. Set up a weekly review rhythm to ensure that all interactions are appropriately closed and that incoming ideas are utilised to add value to the organisation.
