Share best practices and celebrate employee achievements
DFS used to have a disconnected workforce with many colleagues on the shop floor, in supply chain or manufacturing, many without an email address or access to a computer.
It now uses Workplace to share best practices/tips and to celebrate their employees using groups. Employees can now share photos/videos demonstrating their work and learn from each other. This is allowing best practice to flourish at a faster rate and promoting innovation from grassroots. For example, Area Service Managers share tips and best practices around reupholstering or colouring sofas, allowing others to benefit from on-the-job learnings and ultimately improving customer service.
How to do it in your organisation in three simple steps:
- Create groups following the structure of your organisation and invite the relevant employees to these groups. For example, if you are a retailer, create a group for each store and invite the people who work at that store to join. This will ensure that all content in groups is relevant and therefore valuable to its members. Top Tip: You can use your organisation chart to help you structure the groups you create i.e groups for Communications, HR, Leadership, Feedback for all employees, then more smaller groups for local regions/departments of your company.
- Invite managers and influencers to take ownership of their groups. By empowering this audience and offering them early support and training, they can begin to add content to these groups, bringing them to life and showing how others can use them. This content is the beginning of migrating workflow from traditional tools, to Workplace, avoiding duplication and creating a better way of working. Top Tip: The best content to migrate is typically around identifying pain points in the business and inviting others in the group to share their ideas on how to solve them.
- Encourage your company to engage with Workplace. The leadership team of any organisation have a vital role to play here. By encouraging employees to use Workplace from the top leadership, a company is effectively mandating and guiding its employees on best practice of the tool. Top Tip: Use engaging activities on Workplace such as events or announcements to allow employees to get to know each other and feel comfortable sharing work related content.
